Job boards waste time because they hide the only details that matter. This list does the opposite: 10 remote (or remote-friendly) Data + ML roles with compensation, work setup, and a plain-English breakdown of what you’d be building.
Who this is for
This week’s list is for you if you’re:
A Data Engineer, Data Scientist, ML Engineer, Research Engineer, or Applied AI/LLM builder
Looking for remote work (or roles that explicitly allow remote)
Able to show proof of work: shipped systems, experiments in production, measurable impact, or strong projects
Comfortable working async and communicating clearly in writing (remote teams filter hard for this)

What teams are screening for right now
Remote Data/ML teams are looking for signal, fast:
Proof you can build end-to-end, not just notebooks. Pipelines, evaluation, deployment, monitoring.
Data fundamentals: SQL fluency, schema thinking, and knowing how data breaks in the wild.
ML fundamentals: you can explain tradeoffs, metrics, failure modes, and why your approach works.
Production instincts: latency, cost, reliability, debugging, observability.
Evaluation maturity: you measure model quality, not vibes. Especially for LLM work.
Remote execution: crisp written updates, clear timelines, and owning your tasks without babysitting.
The 10 roles
1) Machine Learning Engineer (AI Decisioning)
Comp: $200K–$260K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Not specified | YOE: 5–15 | Visa: Available What this team does: Syncs customer data from a warehouse into business tools teams rely on. What you’d be building: Decisioning and scoring systems that turn customer data into actions, plus the modeling, experimentation, and measurement layer that proves it works.
2) Geometric Computer Vision Engineer
Comp: $155K–$185K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Not specified | YOE: 2–5 | Visa: Not available (US citizen or current green card holder)What this team does: 3D perception for autonomous machines. What you’d be building: Geometry-heavy perception systems, likely including 3D reconstruction, sensor fusion, calibration, and performance-critical vision pipelines.
3) Inference Engineer
Comp: $240K–$400K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Europe, New York | YOE: Not specified | Visa: Not available What this team does: Builds high-performance AI systems. What you’d be building: Inference and serving infrastructure: latency and throughput optimization, deployment pipelines, runtime performance work, and reliability for production model serving.
4) Founding Applied AI Engineer
Comp: $130K–$190K | Work setup: Remote | Location: New York, San Francisco | YOE: 2–6 | Visa: Available What this team does: Helps revenue teams win complex deals using AI agents for relationship selling. What you’d be building: Applied AI features that plug into real workflows: agent behavior, retrieval and tool use, evaluation, and product integration that drives outcomes (not demos).
5) Senior Research Engineer
Comp: $150K–$250K | Work setup: On-site or Remote | Location: Denver | YOE: 3–5 | Visa: Not available What this team does: A compute platform for construction. What you’d be building: Research-to-production systems: experiments, modeling, and data pipelines that support real-world construction workflows, with strong emphasis on correctness and measurable impact.
6) Data Scientist
Comp: $160K–$230K | Work setup: On-site or Remote | Location: New York, Los Angeles | YOE: 5+ | Visa: Not available What this team does: Growth intelligence for wealth management. What you’d be building: Models and analytics that drive growth decisions: segmentation, forecasting, experimentation, and insights tied to product or revenue metrics.
7) Founding Senior Data Engineer
Comp: $200K–$225K | Work setup: On-site or Remote | Location: Not specified | YOE: 5+ | Visa: Not available What this team does: Physician-led, AI-enhanced medical advice. What you’d be building: Data foundations from scratch: ingestion, modeling, quality checks, and pipelines that make AI features and analytics reliable in a healthcare context.
8) Tech Lead, LLM & Generative AI
Comp: $100K–$150K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Europe | YOE: 8+ | Visa: Not available What this team does: Building the future of AI companionship. What you’d be building: LLM application architecture, evaluation loops, deployment patterns, and the technical leadership needed to take generative AI from “cool” to dependable.
9) Senior Machine Learning Researcher
Comp: $155K–$205K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Not specified | YOE: 6+ | Visa: Not available (US citizen or current green card holder)What this team does: 3D perception for autonomous machines. What you’d be building: Research-driven ML for perception: model development, training methodology, evaluation, and turning research wins into production-capable systems.
10) AI Agent Engineer
Comp: $160K–$180K | Work setup: Remote | Location: Not specified | YOE: 1–3 | Visa: Not available What this team does: Partners with schools and health plans to deliver whole-child healthcare support to K–12 students. What you’d be building: Agent workflows and reliability: tool orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, and guardrails so the system behaves under real conditions.
Note: Compensation and availability can change quickly. If you do not see a match, send your target title(s), comp range, work setup preference, and your strongest proof of work, and we’ll keep you in the loop for the next weekly drop.
